Wilder is a nature discovery app designed for children, operated by Be Wilder LLC. We take children's privacy seriously and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable state privacy laws. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you stay in control.

Wilder is designed for children under 13, used under direct parental supervision and consent. Parents create accounts and manage all child profiles.

Children's Privacy — COPPA
Wilder is designed for children under 13 and complies with COPPA. We do not collect personal information from children without verified parental consent.
Parent-first architecture: Only parents create accounts. Children never enter personal information directly. All child data is created and managed by the verified parent account holder.
By creating a Wilder account, parents provide verifiable consent for their children to use the app under their supervision.
- We do not show behavioral advertising to children
- We do not sell children's data — ever
- We do not allow children to make purchases
- Children's discovery data is only visible to their parent account
- We use anonymized accuracy feedback to improve nature identification — this data is never linked to a child's identity

What We Collect
Parent account information:
- Email address (required for account creation and communication)
- First name (for personalization)
- Password (stored as a secure hash — we never see it)
- Subscription status and billing information (processed by Stripe — we do not store card numbers)
Child profile information (created by parent):
- Child's first name and age
- Avatar selection (emoji/color — no photo of the child)
- Discovery history (photos taken in the app, species identified, timestamps)
- GPS coordinates of discoveries (deletion available to parents on request — see Section 5)
- Points, rank, streaks, and gem collection (gamification data)
- Messages between parent and child within the app

How We Use Your Data
- To provide the Wilder app experience — nature identification, quests, field journals
- To enable parent-child messaging within the app
- To send parents updates about their child's discoveries and app activity
- To improve species identification accuracy (aggregated, never linked to a child)
- To process subscription payments via Stripe
- To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset)
We never sell your data. We never share your data with advertisers. Wilder products are ad-free by design.

GPS Data & Location
When a child makes a discovery, we record the GPS coordinates to display on their personal discovery map. This data is:
- Only visible to the parent account holder — never public
- Never shared with third parties
- Deletion available to parents at any time on request — email hello@wilderapp.com
- Never used for advertising or location tracking
Parents can disable location recording at any time in Settings.

Photos & Images
Children take photos of nature as part of the discovery experience. These photos are:
- Stored securely in our database (Supabase)
- Only accessible to the parent account holder
- Never made public or shared with other users
- Never used to train AI models
- Deleted when the parent deletes the child profile or requests account deletion

Third-Party Services
Wilder uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — database and authentication (SOC 2 compliant)
- Anthropic Claude API — AI nature identification (photos are sent for identification only, not stored by Anthropic)
- Stripe — payment processing (we never store card numbers)
- Netlify — app hosting
- PostHog — anonymous usage analytics (no personal data)
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any advertising trackers.

Your Rights & Data Deletion
As a parent, you have the right to:
- Review all data we hold about your family at any time
- Delete any child profile and all associated data immediately
- Delete your entire account and all family data
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Opt out of non-transactional emails at any time
To delete your account: Go to Parent Dashboard → Settings → Delete My Account. All child profiles, discoveries, photos, GPS data, and messages will be permanently deleted. This cannot be undone.
You can also email us at [email protected] to request deletion and we will complete it within 30 days.

Data Security
We take security seriously:
- All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
- Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
- Row-level security policies prevent any user from accessing another family's data
- Child profiles are only accessible to the parent account that created them
- We do not store payment card numbers — Stripe handles all payment data

Changes to This Policy
We will notify you by email if we make material changes to this privacy policy. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update. Continued use of Wilder after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
We will never retroactively change how we use data already collected without explicit parental consent.
